Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector on Wednesday apprehended drugs and $10,000 in cash from a suspect who attempted to escape law enforcement.
Giang Van Thi Slaughter, who is a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident (LAPR), refused to pull over when agents initiated a traffic stop.
Furthermore, she continued to ignore the sirens of the officials and headed eastbound on Interstate 8. She exited 16th Street, continuing through Yuma where officers with the Yuma Police Department assisted Border Patrol agents on the pursuit.
According to a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Slaughter was finally stopped in San Luis, Arizona, using their vehicles to box her in.
Once Slaughter’s vehicle was stopped, the inside of her vehicle revealed methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and more than $10,000 in cash. She was charged with narcotic drug possession and dangerous drug possession for sale.
Border Patrol officers have persisted throughout a challenging and busy year for officials at the U.S. Southern border.
According to data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the group has apprehended more than 1.7 million migrants during the fiscal year, the highest number in decades.
Additionally, there have been more seizures of fentanyl in 2021 than any previous year in recent times.
At least three border patrol agents have died in the line of duty this year alone.
“We’ve been saying for months that our country has more than just a border crisis — we have a humanitarian crisis,” Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said previously. “Children and families have faced illness, violence and death on their treacherous path to our border. This has direct implications for Arizona, especially our border communities. All Arizonans—all Americans—owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women of the Border Patrol for their dedication and hard work.”
